The trick is the pinwheel. Lay the four 2.4m sleepers so each one runs past the end of the last, like the blades of a windmill. Every corner has one sleeper butting into the side of the next, so nothing gets cut and every edge is a full sleeper. You end up with a bed about 2.45m on the outside and 2.35m inside, which is about 5.5m2 of growing space. Big enough for a proper vegie patch, small enough to reach the middle from the edge.

A 200 x 50mm sleeper on its edge gives you 200mm of depth. One cube of Ultra Premium Garden Soil tipped into that bed fills it to about 180mm, nearly to the top of the sleeper. That is the depth most vegies and herbs want, and it leaves a lip so the water stays in when you hose it. Order the cube with the sleepers and it all comes on the one truck.

Make it last
The sleepers are CCA treated, so they are rated for ground contact and the weather. Set the bed on level ground, with the sleepers sitting flat so the corners meet square. Screw the corners together from the outside with your own fixings. We sell the sleepers and the soil, not the screws, so grab those with the drill. If you want it rock solid, a short Hardwood Post 100 x 75mm inside each corner gives the screws something to bite into.
