2.4m or 3.0m Treated Pine Sleepers: Which Length for Your Job
Treated pine sleepers come in two lengths, 2.4m and 3.0m. Picking the right one up front saves cutting, offcuts and a second trip.

Both of our treated pine sleepers are 200 x 50mm and CCA treated, so they are rated for the ground and the weather. The only difference is the length. The 3.0m is the long one for straight runs. The 2.4m is the one for shorter beds, tight corners and anywhere a long sleeper would need cutting back. Price and treatment aside, the length is the whole decision.

This is the one people ring about. Two 3.0m sleepers end to end make 6.0m exactly, so a 6m garden wall or edge needs no cutting at all when the sleepers are fixed to the face of the posts. Two per row, every row, and the only cuts on the job are the posts. Order two 3.0m sleepers for every row of the wall.

Shorter runs: use the 2.4m
Two 2.4m sleepers end to end make 4.8m. For a bed or an edge under that length, the 2.4m usually gets you closer with less waste, and a single 2.4m is easier to carry, lift and cut if you are on your own. Corners and steps in a wall are nearly always 2.4m work too.
If the run does not divide cleanly into either length, mix them. A row of one 3.0m and one 2.4m makes 5.4m with one join and no cut.

Posts and post mix for either length
Whichever length you pick, the post is the same: the Hardwood Post 100 x 75mm 2.4m CCA, with the sleepers fixed to its face. Steel H posts are for concrete sleepers and do not hold a 50mm pine sleeper. Post Mix Cement in 20kg bags sets the posts. We do not sell the screws or bolts that fix sleepers to posts, so pick those up with your fixings.
