They are not a matched pair, and that is the point. The retractable knife has a metal casing, so it is the one you use for the heavy cuts where you are leaning on it and a plastic body would flex or crack. The lock back folds and has a quick change blade function, so it goes in a pocket without a sheath and swaps a blade in seconds without hunting for a screwdriver.

Both have TPR grips, which keeps them in your hand when they are wet or you have got glue on your fingers. There is a bonus 5 pack of blades in the kit, so you can put a fresh edge in straight away rather than pushing a dull blade through plasterboard and tearing the paper.
