Press it on with one hand and it grips, so your other hand is free for the actual job.

It is one piece moulded rubber, which means the suction is the tool rather than a mechanism sitting on top of it. There is no pump to work and no lever to seize up: push it down onto a smooth flat surface and it holds, lift the lipped edge and it lets go straight away.

That matters when you are placing a tile or a panel that has no edge to get a hand under. One hand on the lifter, one hand free to line the piece up, instead of two hands on the load and no way to adjust it.
