A foam cushioned backer that spreads the pressure evenly, so grout packs into the joint instead of skating over it.

The plastic backer sits on a foam cushion behind the rubber blade, and that cushion is what spreads your load across the whole face as you push. Without it you drive all the pressure through one corner and end up dragging grout back out of the joints you have just filled.

The gun rubber blade has bevelled edges for working across the joint at an angle, and the whole thing runs on an aluminium backing pad at 100mm x 240mm with a moulded plastic handle.
