Sledge hammer weight in something you can swing one handed.

The 400mm hickory handle is the whole point of it. Short enough to work one handed in close, long enough to get real head speed up, so you land heavy strikes in places a full sledge will never fit.

The head is drop forged and heat treated carbon steel with a milled face and chamfered edges, so it bites instead of skating off a chisel head. The tapered eye hole stops the head creeping up the handle, and the clear lacquer keeps the rust off between jobs.
