Rockmate Mulch... Second to none

Rockmate Mulch is built for tough Aussie conditions and designed to perform. It locks in moisture during the heat, helps suppress weeds before they take over, and protects your soil as it naturally breaks down. The result is healthier plants, stronger growth, and garden beds that hold their colour longer.

Second to none. Proven where it matters.

FAQ's

How much mulch do I need?

As a general guide, 1 cubic metre of mulch will cover approximately 10 square metres at a depth of 100mm. For most residential garden beds, we recommend laying mulch between 75 and 100mm deep to get the best balance of weed suppression and moisture retention. If you’re unsure, measure the length and width of your area and we’re always happy to help you calculate the right amount.

How thick should I lay mulch?

For optimal performance, mulch should be spread 75 to 100mm thick. Too thin and you won’t get proper weed control or moisture protection. Too thick and it can restrict airflow to the soil. Keeping it within that ideal range ensures your plants stay healthy while your garden beds stay protected and looking fresh.

Will mulch stop weeds completely?

Mulch dramatically reduces weed growth by blocking sunlight from reaching weed seeds, but it won’t eliminate them entirely. For best results, remove existing weeds before applying and maintain the correct depth. When applied properly, mulch can significantly cut down the time you spend maintaining your garden.

How long does mulch last?

Most organic mulches last between 6 and 12 months, depending on weather conditions and the type of mulch used. Chunkier bark mulches generally last longer, while finer mulches break down faster and improve soil quality more quickly. Topping up once a year keeps your garden beds looking sharp and performing at their best.

Is mulch good for the soil?

Yes. As organic mulch breaks down, it improves soil structure, increases organic matter, and supports beneficial microbes. This creates a healthier growing environment for your plants, leading to stronger roots and better overall growth.

Can I use mulch around all plants?

Mulch is suitable for most trees, shrubs, and garden plants. Just make sure to leave a small gap around the base of stems and tree trunks to prevent excess moisture build up. This allows airflow and reduces the risk of rot while still protecting the surrounding soil.

Do you offer delivery?

Yes. Rockmate is based in North Maclean and we offer reliable local delivery to surrounding areas. Whether you’re tackling a small backyard refresh or a larger landscaping project, we’ll make sure your mulch arrives on time and ready to go. Pickup is also available from our yard if that suits you better.
