A square mouth shovel on a long handle, for shifting material rather than digging holes.

The square mouth is the difference. A flat blade sits hard against a slab or a truck tray and picks up the last of the load, where a pointed shovel just skates over it and leaves you sweeping. The long handle gives you the leverage to throw material rather than lift it straight up.

This is the shovel for moving sand, gravel, soil and mulch off a driveway, not for breaking new ground.
