Dense Australian hardwood for a wall that outlasts the pine version.

A 200 x 50mm hardwood sleeper cut to 2.4m. Hardwood is heavier, denser and considerably more durable in ground contact than treated pine, and it carries a natural colour that weathers to a deep grey rather than the greenish tint of treatment.

It costs more and it is harder work to cut and drill. What you get back is a wall that does not soften at the base after a few wet summers, and a look that suits heritage, rural and natural landscapes where treated pine reads too new.

Best For Retaining walls, raised garden beds, terraced steps, heritage and rural landscaping, and anywhere a longer service life is worth the extra cost.

Sizing Sold individually. Stack five sleepers for a 1m high wall. Anything above 1m should be checked by an engineer before you build it. Pre drill before fixing, hardwood will split if you do not.
