The screed is the tool that decides how hard the rest of the pour is going to be. You drag it across the forms to take the concrete down to level and pull the excess back, and whatever you leave behind is what the float and the trowel have to fix. Get it flat here and the finishing is quick. Leave it hollow and you are chasing it for the rest of the day.
